John Wesley Halliburton (b. 1840) from Woodville, TN, entered the University in 1857, joined the Dialectic Society, and graduated with third honors in 1861. He enlisted with his home regiment, the Haywood County (TN) Grays, then later fought with an Arkansas regiment. He was captured and imprisoned for a time. Eventually he married Juliet Halliburton; they became the parents of two boys, Wesley and John Holloway Halliburton.
